On September 13, Professor Uwe Fleckner (University of Hamburg/China Academy of Art, Hangzhou) delivered a public lecture at the Department of Chinese and History on Wang Shu's Ningbo Museum. Departing from the unique lens of "spolia," a key concept deeply rooted in European culture and visuality since antiquity, Professor Fleckner elaborated on how Wang Shu used recycled building materials to construct a public museum, which is, per se, a “lieu de mémoire” in the strict sense of Pierre Nora. Over 50 participants, including faculty, museum curators, B.A. and M.A. students, joined this event. The lecture was followed by insightful comments made by Professor Chiu Rebecca L.H. (University of Hong Kong and UCL London) and a vigorous exchange among the audience.
