Austin Hughes Holdings Limited Taiwan Exchange Scholarships

With an aim to encourage students from the Department of Chinese and History (CAH) going for exchange studies in the partner universities in Taiwan, Austin Hughes Holdings Limited has kindly agreed to donate a number of scholarships to the University with effect from the 2018/2019 academic year for five consecutive years under the following regulations:

  1. There shall be a maximum of TWO scholarships per annum and the value of each scholarship shall be HK$10,000.
  2. The Scholarships shall be awarded to two full-time local undergraduate students from the BACHIS programme who:
    (i) have completed the Student Exchange Programme in the partner universities in Taiwan in the current academic year;
    (ii) have achieved outstanding academic performance (i.e. CGPA of 3.0 or above); and
    (iii) priority will be given to those who have proven financial needs, or have successfully applied for Government grants and loans.
  3. Scholarship recipients are allowed to receive Student Exchange Fund from the University concurrently for the exchange programme.
  4. Scholarship recipients are required to submit reports on their exchange studies (not less than 800 words each) to CAH upon their return to Hong Kong.

CAH Study Abroad Postgraduate Scholarship

With an aim to encourage students from the Department of Chinese and History (CAH) pursuing MPhil/MA programmes in overseas universities, an anonymous donor has kindly agreed to donate a scholarship to the University for two consecutive years under the following regulations:

  1. There shall be a one-off scholarship per annum and the value of the scholarship shall be HK$100,000.
  2. The Scholarship shall be awarded to a full-time local undergraduate student from any stream under BACHIS programme who:
    (i) is a graduating student by the end of the current academic year;
    (ii) has been admitted by overseas universities (excluding mainland China, Taiwan and Macau) to a MPhil/MA programme which is related to the Department's teaching and research fields; and;
    (iii) has achieved consistently outstanding academic performance.
  3. The Department shall set up a panel to interview shortlisted candidates.
  4. In any year when there is no eligible student, the Scholarship shall be carried forward to the following academic year.

Chinese Cultural Studies Awards (中國文化研究獎)

With the generous funding support of the China Cultural Promotion and Exchange Limited, the Department of Chinese and History (CAH) has established the Chinese Cultural Studies Awards. It aims to recognize undergraduate students for their quality research papers in the field of Chinese cultural studies through making good use of the library resources, conducting in-depth literature reviews, paying a site visit and so on. The Awards have been established with effect from the 2024/25 academic year for four consecutive years under the following regulations:

  1. There shall be TWO Awards per academic year and the value of each Award shall be HK$3,000 and HK$2,000.
  2. The Awards shall be granted to TWO full-time CAH undergraduate students, who have achieved the most outstanding academic performance (with course grade not less than Grade “A”) in CAH4399 Dissertation in the current academic year, subject to the recommendation given by the selection panel of the Department. Priority will be given to students who are capable of making wise use of on-campus resources and ancient books to produce a remarkable research paper/output.
  3. In any year when there is no eligible student, the Scholarship shall be carried forward to the following academic year.

Sihe Feng Chinese Cultural Studies Awards (思赫中國文化研究獎)

With an aim to recognize students with outstanding academic performance and contribution to the MA in Chinese programme, Dr. YAN Fei has kindly agreed to donate a number of awards to the University with effect from 2022/2023 for five consecutive years under the following regulations:

  1. There shall be TWO Awards per academic year and the value of each Award shall be HK$5,000. 
  2. The Awards shall be each awarded to a full-time/part-time/combined mode student of Chinese Language and Literature stream, and a full-time/part-time/combined mode student of Chinese History and Cultural Heritage stream or a full-time mode student of Professional Development in Chinese History and Cultural Heritage stream under MACH programme who:
    (i)     admitted in 2022/23 and thereafter;
    (ii)    is a graduating student in the current academic year;
    (iii)   has attained at least a CGPA of 3.7 among the same graduation cohort in the academic year; and
    (iv)   has made substantial contribution in MACH programme and actively participated in student activities.
  3.  In any year when there is no eligible student, the Awards shall be carried forward to the following academic year.
