Introduction
What is the best way to approach museum artifacts? How can teachers effectively plan a museum session that encourages active participation among secondary school students? In this workshop, participants will delve into the conceptual coherence of different objects through an immersive experience at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Rather than providing a traditional tour, the instructor will lead the group through selected artifacts, facilitating discussions on the shared concepts embodied in these objects. This includes the exhibition’s highlight, “Yuanming Yuan – Art and Culture of An Imperial Garden-Palace” (20 March-12 August 2024). The aim is to stimulate an engaged and reflective way of observing. Participants will be introduced to the “key-reference model” of object viewing, and the session will include a worksheet that can be adapted for secondary school teaching purposes.
