The 1st CAH Student Mentoring Scheme (SMS) was brought to a successful close on 20 April 2015. Over the past year, 28 mentors from the Chinese (CHIN) major and the Culture and Heritage Management (CUHM) major have devoted a considerable amount of time and effort to providing guidance for junior students on various matters including course registration, application for student residence, exchange programmes as well as other academic and on-campus issues. In addition, to familiarise our new students with the big CAH family, they have also organised a number of meaningful events, for instance, 3M (Mentors-mentees-meeting), departmental Orientation Day, alumni sharing session, teacher-student gatherings and even a field trip to Shenzhen.
At the closing ceremony, Prof. Li Hsiao-ti, the Department Head, thanked the mentors for their outstanding performance during the past year. He believed that being a mentor is an honour for university students as the students newly admitted to the Department no doubt needed the support from their seniors. The mentors, hugely dedicated to their role, also helped promote a strong sense of belonging to CAH and CityU amongst all students.
The Student Mentoring Scheme Committee in CAH later presented each mentor with a certificate of appreciation and potted plants, signifying that the mentorship spirit will be passed down from generation to generation. We hope that students who are going to be in their 2nd year or above in 2015/16 will inherit the same passion for the Department and the University and actively participate in the 2nd SMS.
Last but not least, recruitment for 2nd SMS has already started. Students who aspire to serve as a mentor are welcome to join our family!
